Bar Review - Harry Bolands Irish Bar and Lounge
by Darren Subarton
297 9th
Street, between 4th and 5th Aves. In Brooklyn
Ladies, gents, drunks, and enemies of the mayor
the word is out
on the street Harry Bolands is the place to be. Harrys, where the old
CJs Tavern used to breed brawls and STDs, has a consistent, diverse atmosphere
and a great makeover. I spend my days tossing back whiskies, betting on the ponies,
playing cards with the Newfies from Local 764, or talking with European kids
about the slickest DJs across the pond. Harrys has a working fireplace, cozy
back booths, darts, kick ass jukebox, beautiful bar selection, and the kind of female
bartenders that men go off to fight wars for. Nights are a festive scene and weekends are
crowded with karaoke-belting maniacs and broads that can sing a lamppost dumbstruck into
love. Top notch all around: atmosphere, prices, accessibility (F, N, R, M lines a block
away), people, drink selections, and talented bartenders; theres even a card game
named after it: 9th Street. Harry Bolands is being
nominated for the prestigious Getting Shitcanned With Subarton 2001 Award.
Truly worth your time, and great for couples looking to snuggle away and level a few
seductive glasses of wine.
