The Glam Lit Manifesto Glam Lit is a philosophy of contemporary literature
that draws upon and exploits the distinction between the creators of the work and its
presentation. Its roots can be found in sources as diverse as Glam Rock, the Parisian
salons of the Twenties and Thirties, Punk Rock, Tom Wolfe's white suit, Riot Grrrls, the
Algonquin Round Table, underground Zines, and any "serious" author who has ever
wondered what to wear to a reading. 2. Glam Lit is visionary. The philosophy draws a distinction between artists who craft their work and authors who present the work in public. While the former necessitates seriousness and commitment, the latter gives license to artifice. 3. Glam Lit is inclusive. The movement is open to anyone who believes in good writing and would like to see a bit more glamour in the traditionally staid world of literary readings. It does not discriminate based on race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, the color of someone's nail polish, or lack thereof. 4. Glam Lit is insurgent. Its mission is to promote authors represented by independent publishers and to connect with independent bookstores around the country. |
