Studied and articulate the line
excercised its wherewithal
nimbly traversing the stiff
quadrille (gridded a watercolor-blue)
like a pendulum with a periodic hitch

The #2 pencil kept its head down
until finally the prototypes of
man, woman and a simple domicile
emerged, as from beneath the feet of
a spinning top or a whirling dervish,
or from out of a spider's arabesque,
a tangled nest, a whirlpool, a dustcloud,
the Milky Way, the warp and woof of thought,

deliberate chaos
