Now that the Subway Series hoopla has finally been swept away with
Modell's "Championship Mets" socks being moved nearer to the clearance section,
here comes another bandwagon. Already I notice less of a furor as far as football is
concerned since, when I asked back in October if anyone were a football fan, a friend of
mine replied, "Yes, I follow the Rangers."
At least now I am safe to confess that I have always been a Vikings fan, ever since I
decided purple was my favorite color. This admission will no longer get me beat up,
since I was already slaughtered on the field. I especially liked the Vikes back in
their glory days, the days of Ahmad Rashad, who ended up marrying Mrs. Cosby, actually
making the show tolerable. The team was so close this year but went down hard, an
excellent game -- for a Giants fan -- from what I couldn't help but read plastered all
over Monday's papers.
And I will stick to my guns. I refuse to fall prey to the New York Giants mania, but
I am eager to see which of my coworkers begins to chant "Big Blue" during his
lunch break. Since I am also a Raiders fan, I have a strange feeling I won't even
watch the Super Bowl this year. You may find me instead at Modell's, scouring the
aisles for sale-priced Vikings socks.
