Bite This
Clarissa Macaya

In the beginning, it was dark.
But don't believe all you've heard;
there was no serpent,
simply this:
I was hungry.
It looked good.
All of a rush
the thought of you erupted in me,
volcanic ash fallout of your nearness
spreading over eyes, mouth, nose, fingers...
I beckon,
proffer hard red fruit.
Bite this.
Bite.
Answers to unspoken questions.
Bite me.
Longing, wanting, waiting.
Bite here.
Sudden knowledge.
Bite me here.
Explosion in a small room
igniting the air spontaneously,
surrounded by a thick wring of lust
as wide as my wrist
tight as a fist
Overpowered with sticky jam desire
reading goosebump Braille on skin
body heat heart thrums
snoring whispering hiccuping alive

What was all quite doable in darkness
once the box was opened...
there's just no fading to black.
