things to know about you stay on earth

Doug Schwab

          fire formed to attract smoke
          smoke came to represent mystery
          mankind formed to contemplate mystery
the first humans were without a nervous system
the nervous system formed to accommodate pain
to endure pain the humans invented art
prayers were invented by a group of dissidents to prolong despair

in the early days the earth was entirely paved
some strips of it exist still
          below the pavement was coal
furnaces were made to keep the coal from turning to diamonds
trees formed from rolls of paper that washed ashore from the first seas
when the trees began to sway they made wind
bricks were ground to dust that it might blow in the wind
man built bridges in anticipation of crossing
when the bridges were built rivers formed
          rain formed to attract clouds
before the rain puddles needed constant replenishment from rivers and
                 tubs (children did this)
it is not true that soup begot spoons
